Pre-Ride Inspection Checklist for ATVs and UTVs

Are you ready to tear up the trails with your ATV or UTV? Not so fast! First, you will need to give your vehicle a pre-ride inspection. Glende Polaris Yamaha has created this list of 7 important maintenance checks to perform before each ride.

If you have any questions about ATV and UTV maintenance, feel free to contact us! Glende Polaris Yamaha is your destination for all things powersports in Chico, CA.

1. Visual Inspection

The first step is to conduct a visual inspection of your ATV or UTV. You should be looking for any signs of wear and tear or damage that might cause problems later on. Take a close look in every nook and cranny to rule out any issues that could impact your ride.

2. Fluid Checks

When inspecting your ATV or UTV, don't forget to check the fluids. That includes the oil, transmission fluid, and fuel. It's important to make sure there are no leaks or any other noticeable issues with the fluids.

3. Other Performance Checks

In addition to the fluid levels, you should also check the condition of your air filter, spark plug, and battery. If you’re not sure what to look for, be sure to consult your owner’s manual!

4. Tire Pressure

Next, check the pressure level in each tire, and compare them to the recommendations in your owner’s manual. Make sure they are properly inflated; if not, adjust them accordingly.

While you’re at it, perform a general inspection of the tires, looking for any signs of damage or wear and tear. Riding on a compromised tire is never an option!

5. Lights & Electrical Connections

Even if you will be riding in broad daylight, make sure all lights are functioning properly on your four wheeler. This includes both the headlights and taillights, as you never know when you might need them. You should also check all electrical connections, including the kill switch and ignition switch, to make sure everything is in good working order.

6. Test The Controls

Before hitting the trails on your ATV or UTV, be sure to test out the brakes, accelerator, and throttle in a safe area. When testing out each control, watch out for any abnormal sounds or vibrations that could indicate a problem.

7. Final Inspection

And lastly before your big ride, take one final inspection of your four wheeler from top to bottom to make sure it is in good condition and ready to go! If something doesn't look or feel right, don't risk it – contact the service department at Glende Polaris Yamaha for assistance.
